If we had to choose a composer that unites classical music & jazz in a very
original way, then one of our first choices would most certainly come to
Steve Barta!
This pianist, composer, arranger and a producer has
15 recordings
so far that reflect many of his influences, particularly Brazilian, jazz and classical.
Among them,
Another life Brazil
and
Blue River,
maybe stand out the most and they were marked by Barta’s colaboration with many jazz
legends like Hubert Laws, Herbie Mann, Dori Caymmi and Paulinho da Costa.
Also a Stainway artist, In Barta’s opus you can find the contemplative and dreamy
piano pieces and a great music for the young ones – his album
Jumpin Jazz Kids: A Swinging Jungle Tale
brought him a grammy nomination for the best Children album. He is also a music educator
with over 30 years of experience teaching intermediate to advanced students, educators and
professional musicians.
Reflecting his love of American jazz standards, Steve arranged some of the most
well loved songs by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, George Shearing, Michel Legrand
and Irving Berlin.
His latest musical project is something not to be missed: the orchestral arangement
of the famous Bolling’s
Suite for flute and jazz piano which was described as a
brilliantly effective. By creating an arangement for jazz quartet, string quartet
and orchestra we heard Bolling’s Suite in a whole new light!
