For children

Peter and The Wolf

28. 08. 2016.

Children were always considered the most sincere audience and thus the most demanding one! Because there is no false applause – they will either love something or they will unequivocally show their protest. Back in 1936. the famous soviet composer Sergei Prokofiev faced the challenge of having children as musical critics when he was commissioned to compose a new symphony for the youngest listeners. Man of music was at the same time a man of words because Prokofiev also wrote the story completing everything in just four days. ‘Peter and the Wolf’, one of today’s most famous musical pieces for children, came almost unnoticed on its premiere. Well-deserved success will arrive later which was, as we all know, a common case in the history of music. Every animal in this musical tale alongside Peter and his Grandfather is represented by a different instrument and melody. Besides the orchestra, what gives a special flavor to the whole impression is the spoken word – the narrator. Through the decades’ many famous people lead children through the adventures of the brave and naughty Peter and his friends – Eleanor Roosevelt, Garry Moore, Sean Connery, Mia Farrow, Alice Cooper (with the latest version of Peter from 2015.) – to name a few. ClassicAll radio’s choice is the recording from 1978 performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, conductor Eugene Ormandy and the master Man of words / Man of music of the ‘70s, the narrator whose velvet voice you will surely recognize! ⚡ Are you sitting comfortably? Then prepare for ‘Peter and the Wolf’, your storyteller is David Bowie!
